Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Third La Jolla Conference on Glucose Monitoring and Control!
We have lined up a group of excellent speakers representing the most active researchers in the fields of glucose monitoring, sensors, clinical and patient perspectives, insulin pumps, and development of controllers. The key objective of the Conference is to provide answers to the questions: "What has been achieved so far?" and "What remains to be done?" The goal will be to develop a Consensus Statement on where the field stands, what problems remain to be addressed, and what specifically is needed for the most effective progress. The plan is to develop a set of publishable recommendations that identify the remaining issues and suggest directions for the future.
The Conference is designed to maximize communication yet maintain an informal atmosphere. The format of this Conference will be different than most. There will be speakers in the morning and early afternoon on Friday and in the morning on Saturday. On late Friday afternoon and before lunch on Saturday, we will form informal working groups for open discussion of specific topics. We've asked several of the speakers to serve as coordinators of these individual sessions and a list of possible specific topics has been developed. The hope is that all attendees will suggest topics and contribute to the discussion. There will be a recorder present for each group, and the plan is to produce a draft for editing and revision by all via email shortly after the meeting.
Friday evening will be a special banquet at the beautiful Stephen Birch Aquarium Museum overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It should be a wonderful event.
We are looking forward to a stimulating meeting!
